Today's the biggest shopping day of the year. Lots of people will
buy electronic products as gifts -- like TVs, cell phones and computers. But few will stop to think about all their old electronic equipment and what to do with it in order to make room for the new. So, what do we do with the 200-million old cell phones being replaced this year alone? Add in old computers, broken TVs, and so on, and you've got gazillions of electronics headed for our landfills. And, what's in them? Just about every type of toxic poison you can think of -- from lead and zinc to chromium and mercury. But there's good news, too. Starting next July, new laws will require manufacturers and retailers to add varying amounts of electronic prices to help set up e-cycling programs worldwide. So, this holiday season remember that today's state-of-the-art electronics are tomorrow's landfill. Responsible disposal is a duty and expense we all have to share. E-cycling is necessary! And that's the On The House Tip for today.
