Termite Tips & Tidbits

Termites are the pests most feared by homeowners due to the serious structural damage they cause. Yet most know very little about these insects. Today you’ll learn some prevention and tidbits to help make termites call it quits. First note, once they’re in your home, they’ll chew-up almost anything: windows, doors, siding, flooring, you name it and adding to the high cost of de-bugging is that the expense is NOT covered by most homeowners insurance policies. After you’ve taken all the usual recommended precautions, like cutting back shrubs and NOT storing wood against the house take these facts into consideration: A typical colony has one million termites and many homes have three or four colonies! A queen lives 15 years and lays one new egg every 15-seconds. And termites work around the clock 12/7. So what good are they? Termites recycle nutrients from wood back into the soil, which is good. Just don’t let it be your house they’re recycling! Be alert and pro-active and well informed.
