Tip of the Day

Patriot Day – Home Security

Today has been proclaimed “Patriot Day” in remembrance of the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks. It pays to upgrade “Home” Security too. Here’s how: strong door locks and dead bolts aren’t enough to deter aggressive intruders who pry at frames or kick doors in, because in most cases there is very little wood left around the locks and strike plates to withstand the blows of a hard kick or two. The solution, add metal door re-enforcers that are U-shaped “wrap-around” pieces offered in many sizes to fit the exact thickness and center locksets of most standard doors. Security hardware companies also offer numerous options for improved window and door safety. From tougher strike plates and better locks for windows and sliding doors to ideas and tips for “Hardening” your home, with simple additions and minor modifications. Both nationally and at your home, upgrading security in advance is the best defense.
