New Tile Look

Got a ceramic tile counter or shower that looks shoddy? Maybe it's just the grout that needs replacing. Often when tile looks bad, it is because the grout, which is softer and more porous, has become chipped, stained or cracked. The answer, before you retile, is re-grouting. The hardest part is removing your old grout. You use a utility knife, screwdriver or an inexpensive tool called a grout saw to do so. Once it is all out, vacuum the joints thoroughly and mix the new grout according to package directions. Use a rubber trowl to spread it over the tile, working at a 45-degree angle to the lines. Once all joints are filled, remove any excess before it begins to dry. After the grout is set up (usually less than an hour), wipe clean with a soft damp sponge, working at a 45-degree angle. This will prevent your digging into the still-soft new grout. And later, when you polish off the leftover haze, you'll have tile that looks like new. And that is your On The House Tip for today.
