TV's "Jeopardy" premiered on this day in 1964, and for all those years tough questions have stumped contestants. If you're "stumped," too, because you cut down a tree that was causing trouble, you have to answer the tough question of what to do with the big old stump it left behind. You could hack it up into small pieces or dig down to the roots and pull it out with a chain hooked to a car or truck. Or, maybe light a fuse and run away. Or, do the smart thing and call in a tree firm that does stump-grinding. They'll bring out a machine that chews a stump into small wood chips to a level several inches below the surface. In no time at all the stump will disappear. Wood chips can be raked away or back into the hole and then covered over with dirt. Add lawn seed or flowers. Soon that big old tree and troublesome stump will be a distant memory. And that's the On The House tip for today.
