Tip of the Day

Fix that Swinging Door, Pardner

Do you have a door that won't stay open? Like the swinging doors down at the old saloon hall? It closes before you're in? Hits you in the backside on the way out? It's a nuisance, but one you can easily fix. Probably the old ranch house has settled a mite, and a doorjamb has gotten out of whack. This causes doors to swing and bang around. If you have this door problem, don't fret. Rustle up a flat-blade screwdriver and a hammer, and tap out the center hinge pin. Lay the pin down on something hard -- like concrete -- and give it a few good taps until it bends just a mite in the middle; then tap it back into the hinge. We'll bet that you'll have the problem solved because the bend causes just enough friction h to put your door in its place -- and keep it there. And that's the On The House tip for today.
