Tip of the Day

Cleaning fireplace ashes

On this day in 1981, TV's "Give Me a Break" debuted, depicting family's struggles and daily strife. It's also the battle cry of many weary homeowners looking for ideas and shortcuts to make life a little easier. Here's some ‘Less Mess’ information for easy fireplace cleanup. After cleaning your fireplace and removing the grate, line the bottom with some aluminum foil, leaving the shiny side up. Then replace the grate and reload your firewood. The next chilly night, your crackling fire will be even warmer and brighter as the foil reflects more light and heat into the room. The next day, instead of cleaning messy ashes, just remove the grate, roll up the foil and cleaning is done.
