Johns that Sneak a Leak

You just might have a toilet that has a sneaky leak that is costing you a fortune in water bills. A slow-leaking toilet that doesn’t make any noise wastes hundred of gallons of water a year and greatly reduces commode efficiency. To check for a slow leak, lift the tank lid and add a dozen drops of food coloring. After an hour, if the coloring seeps into the bowl, it’s a leaker. The cause is probably in the tank ball or flapper valve or the valve opening it seats on. Check for debris or cracks, and see if it’s operating properly. Clean both the valve seat and flapper or ball, and if it still leaks, replace them. They are a lot less expensive than the water they’ll waste. And that's the On The House tip for today.
