Air-conditioning Reality Check

TV’s “The Facts of Life” premiered on this day in 1979. It was a cool show about what to do and what not to do. There are facts of life about air conditioners, too. To cool or not to cool is a tricky question. Many think you should run a/c's occasionally to check them and keep them operational. But the truth is, unlike the air conditioner in your car which should be turned on several times during cold weather to keep it lubricated and to avoid repairs down the line, home air conditioners should run only when temperatures require cooling for comfort. When outside temperatures fall below 60 degrees, operating a home unit could cause serious damage to the compressor. It’s important to know there’s a difference between home and auto air conditioners, and to know when to cool or not to cool. It’s an important question and a fact of life for trouble-free central air conditioning. Sixty or below it’s no go. Those are the facts. And that's the On The House tip for today.
