Soloman Merrick invented the first wrench on this very day in 1835. Ever since, many of us have skinned our knuckles when working with his invention. This isn’t Merrick’s fault; we’re using his invention improperly. You need the right-sized wrench for a proper fit and to get a good grip on each surface of the nut or it’ll slip. A cheap wrench will wear quickly and lose its bite, and slip. A dirty wrench can make you lose your grip, and slip. And, so can dirty, greasy hands. If you push on the wrench instead of pulling, it can slip and mash fingers. (Ouch!) If you do have to push, use your palm, and keep your fingers out of the way. Remember: most scrapes are caused by the nut on your end of the wrench. And that's the On The House tip for today.
