Tip of the Day

Go Soak your (Shower) Head

Clogged showerheads are annoying. Mineral deposits build up and water flow slows to a trickle. We get used to it and put up with it day after day, week after week, but it doesn't have to be that way. Showerhead maintenance is a snap. If your showerhead allows only a slow flow, get a cup of white vinegar and pour it into a small plastic bag. Then secure the plastic bag -- with the showerhead completely immersed in the vinegar. You can tape the bag around the pipe leading to the showerhead or even use a rubber band; then leave it overnight. This works only for chrome-plated heads, and should not be used for brass or gold fixtures. Next morning, remove the bag and wipe with a damp cloth. And that's the On The House tip for today.
