Tip of the Day

Lost-luggage Land

Have you ever flown and lost your luggage? There's a special place in Alabama where your luggage may have wound up. The unclaimed baggage center in Scottsboro, Ala., is a sight to behold. Housed in a building covering more than a city block, it receives thousands of new items daily — all from unclaimed baggage or cargo. They are purchased from major airlines and unpacked, inspected, cleaned up and put out for sale — at prices 20 percent to 80 percent off retail. This unclaimed baggage center is a tourist attraction, with a restaurant, Starbucks, souvenir and gift shop and an oddities museum. It draws more than 1 million visitors annually. Can't make it to Scottsboro? Shop online at unclaimed baggage (dot) com.
