Back-of-the-Door Workshop

Do you live in a place where a workshop isn't feasible? No basement or garage space available? Here's how to "hang" a workshop, hidden away on the back of a door. Maybe you've got a small utility closet that pretty much just houses your furnace or a hall closet that's just a catch-all for stuff. Either one will do to create a compact and neat back-of-the-door workshop. First cut a piece of pegboard a few inches smaller than your door. Then raise it up and off the door with a frame made of one-by-twos. This allows placing various hooks into the holes. Gather all your tools and fasteners and try picturing placement and their hook requirements. Head for the hardware store or home center where you'll find a vast array of hooks, racks, cups, trays and spring-type holders, all designed for pegboard organization. Try outlining everything so you know where each tool belongs. One helpful tip: Don't slam the door shut. For more tips, visit our Web site at Onthehouse.com.
