Tip of the Day

Angry? Think Pink!

William Gaines, who created Mad magazine (of the '60s and '70s) was born on this day, but his famous cartoon character, Alfred E. Neuman, wasn't mad (as in angry), at all. Rather, Alf asked, "What, me worry?" Are you feeling angry? Maybe a color change in a room is all you'll need to feel mellow. Room color is more important than you might think. A famous psychological test (also undertaken in the '60s and '70s) revealed that a certain shade of pink had a calming effect on aggressive behavior. The shade is called Baker-Miller Pink -- so called for two Naval officers who documented it. The color is that of bubble gum. For unknown reasons it creates waves of electro-magnetic energy in the human eye, and causes glands to release hormones that counteract adrenaline production. That, in turn, calms a person for at least 30 minutes. For more tips, visit our Web site at Onthehouse.com.
