It's President's Day and a holiday for many. For some, it's time to tackle the "honey-do" list and to start knocking off a few household chores that for months have been waiting to be done. If one of your projects is to repair a dead electrical outlet, you might be in luck. It could be as simple as resetting a GFCI plug located "upstream." GFCI stands for Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter" -- a special kind of plug required in areas of your home where electrical shocks are likely (near kitchen and bathroom sinks). They can detect a sudden surge and immediately trip -- shutting off the power. However, sometimes electricians run other outlets onto the same circuit further on down the line causing them to also go dead when and if the GFCI is tripped. So, before replacing and rewiring a dead outlet, first check nearby CFCI outlets. A simple push of the reset button might be the answer. Then you can scratch "dead outlet" off your list and head for the golf course.
