Electric Cord Shortening

Got a lamp plugged into a nearby outlet with far too much excess electrical cord? It's not uncommon to see a table lamp with many feet of extra wire coiled or in a pile between the aforementioned light and the outlet. Is it something we all have to live with? We think not. Here's the fix: You can easily shorten a standard electrical wire with a snap-lock replacement plug. They're sold at hardware stores and home centers. Cut off the excess wire and original plug and push the cut end into the new snap-lock plug. Follow the simple instructions -- snap and lock it and you've got a custom fit. We suggest saving and labeling the cut-end piece, too, in case you move, or opt to relocate the lamp. Then you can re-do the extra wire, if needed.
