Tip of the Day

Identity Theft Awareness

Doing something romantic for Valentine's Day? Flowers, dinner or a cruise? Or maybe someone else is doing so in your name! Identity theft is one of the fastest-growing crimes -- doubling every year and now approaching 1 million cases annually. It happens every 60 seconds, costing victims about two years time and a $1000 to correct. What can you do to be sure the bills you get aren't the result of identity theft? Protect personal information. When paying credit cards write only the last four numbers on your check.Give out as little information as possible. Use initials for first and middle names so crooks don't know if you're male or female. Make photocopies of the front and back of all credit cards in case they're lost or stolen. Check for free copies of your credit report at the new www.annualcreditreport.com Website."
