Welcome Home, Baby

A new baby requires a lot of energy. Expecting a new bundle of joy? Expenses might be looming ahead -- some expected and some not. In addition to diapers, clothes and toys, strollers, car seats and nursery furniture, there are many unexpected items: electronic baby monitors, motion sensors and that little consideration of planning ahead for college. And, the energy required isn't all physical. On average, a new infant requires 25 percent more electricity, and 15 percent more natural gas. This goes toward laundry, bathing, cooking and round-the-clock lighting -- to name but a few.
