Tip of the Day

Gooey/Slippery Floor Mess

"Laverne and Shirley" made its TV debut this day in 1976. In one episode, Lenny and Squiggy were alone in the apartment while the girls were out. They decided to make lunch. "Egg salad sounds good" said Lenny, taking eggs out of the refrigerator. "Yeah, with french fries" added Squiggy, grabbing some cooking oil from the cupboard. Within seconds, one of Lenny's raw eggs somehow became airborne -- landing on the floor. Grabbing for it, Squiggy tipped over the cooking oil. In amazement, they stared at the gooey, slippery mess. Grabbing a sponge and dish soap, Squiggy went to clean it up. "Wait," said Lenny, "You'll make it worse!" "This happened to my mom once," he said, "and I remember what she did." With that, "Lenny grabbed a box of table salt and sprinkled it generously on the mess. In minutes all was soaked up. As the girls returned home, Squiggy quickly swept up the salt. "Just doing a little housework," he said. And, no one was the wiser.
