It's January 1 -- New Year's Day - one of the world's most widely celebrated holidays. And, while some folks relax and watch football, others start working on their resolutions. Most of these resolutions focus on diet, health and fitness -- things such as losing weight, eating more healthily and exercising more. Today, you're likely to see people out for a walk or jogging to get their fitness resolutions underway. But, is this the best solution? Experts say walking and jogging are only numbers eight and nine on the top-10 list of most effective fitness activities. They're followed by games -- like tennis and squash. So what's better than walking and jogging? Number seven on the top-10 list is playing soccer; Number 6 is, believe it or not, dancing; Five is practicing martial arts, such as judo; Four is gymnastics; Three is rowing a boat; Two is riding a bicycle -- real or stationary. And, (drum roll) -- the No. 1 most effective health and fitness activity? It's swimming! So, dive right in.
