Barbara Billingsley, who played June Cleaver on "Leave it to Beaver" was born on this day. In one episode she asked the boys to do some housework. Beaver was to put slip covers on two pillows, while Wally was to put a bedspread back inside a duvet. Thinking this was a no-brainer, they went to work. After 20 minutes, Beaver still grappled with the first pillow and its case, while Wally glared at the rumpled bedspread. Returning, June asked, "What's up?" Beaver complained, "The pillows are too big," while Wally whined, "This is a no-way duvet." "I'll show you how," June said. First, he put the pillow in a large plastic bag, and it easily slid right into the cover. Then she simply pulled the plastic bag back out. Taking a handful of safety pins, she pinned each corner and side of the spread to the inside seam of the duvet and gave it a shake. It was perfect. "How?d you do that?" they marveled. Smiling, she said, "It's a mom thing."
