Tip of the Day

Houseplant Humidifier

"Dragnet" made its debut on television this day in 1951. One memorable episode went like this: It was Tuesday and we were working the residential greenery detail. I'm Joe's partner, Frank Furter. I'm detective Joe Friday, humidity cop. We were on our way to San Jose on a 10-40 -- moisture negligence. Not a pretty picture. Open up -- humidity police. Got a report that winter heating has sucked all the humidity out of your home's air. And, now you've got nasal irritation, red eyes and itchy dry skin. Sound familiar, sir? Doesn't have to be that way. All you need are some green house plants. Putting seven in a room can raise the relative humidity as much as 30 percent. But they need extra moisture, too. Just put 'em on a tray filled with gravel and water enough to let some drain down there as well. Putting up with dry air is needless and unhealthy. Get some plants and take a bite out of crime. Those are the facts, sir. Have a nice day.
