Gene Roddenberry, who created the popular TV series Star Trek, was born on this day. He created make-believe futuristic worlds that we've yet to see. While man has created homes of the future and cities of tomorrow as well, Roddenberry's world may soon become just a bit more reality than a dream. A man is about to unveil the world's first home ?builder? of the future -- a gigantic robot controlled by a computer that builds a 2,000 square foot house in one day. The robot hangs from an overhead crane, and, working around the clock, uses a nozzle to lay out an endless bead of concrete (much like a line of toothpaste) that keeps building up until it forms walls, a ceiling, or even a second story, with doors and windows as needed. How far-fetched is this concept? Robot #1 is now under construction, and the first house will be built next year. Yes, the home of the future and its ?builder? are here today. ?Beam us up, Scotty!?
