Tomorrow is Father's Day, and if you're cleaning house for Dad's visit, listen up! Today you'll learn that, when cleaning the floor, there's something you shouldn't do any more. Homeowners with a brand new floor are often told to put white vinegar in the mop water to help better clean the floor. However, a recent study by tile manufacturers found that vinegar is the worst thing to use. While it does reduce spotting from hard water, the acid it contains harms most natural stones and will etch or discolor many types of grout. It was also found to soften vinyl and to dull the finish on many wood floors. Instead, you should always find out what the manufacturer recommends and use that. It may cost a bit more, but your floor will last longer and look a lot nicer. Tomorrow, if there's a lull in the conversation, you might try mentioning this to Dad and impressing him with how smart his kid has become!
