Phone Splitters

Mike Myers, who plays Austin Powers, was born on this day in 1963. His character brought back phrases like "groovy," "beeeee-have," "shagadelic," and "let's split"! As for the latter, if you decide to split (an incoming phone line, that is) you have to know how to get what you want. There are two types of splitters that look very much alike. Basically, splitters are a plastic cube that plugs into a single phone jack and turns it into two phone jacks. The thing to know is that most phone wiring can handle two lines right up to your wall outlet and the phone company can add a second line without coming into your home. If that's what you're looking for, all you need is a splitter with plugs marked "line 1" and "line 2" for each individual phone line. Splitters for single lines, on the other hand, split one line to ring two identical phone extensions at the same time. When you say "let's split," know which is which!
