Wire Tracking System

Raymond Burr, who played Perry Mason on TV, was born on this day. In one episode, he thought his office was bugged when he discovered an extra wire running out of his telephone and into the wall. Unable to see where it went, he simply cut the wire and went on to solve other tough cases. But that doggone wire still bugged him. What was it? Where did it go? Today, all he'd need is the "wire tracker" system. It's a simple little two-part gadget with a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter accepts four kinds of wire hook-ups: electrical; phone; coaxial; and automotive. All Perry would have to do is hook-up the "mystery" phone wire and trace it by sliding the receiver along the wall until it beeped, signaling it was over the subject wire. Had he done this, and followed it all the way to his study downstairs, he would have realized he cut the wire leading to his extension phone. Oops!
