Tip of the Day

Household Water Efficiency

The Titanic sank this day in 1912, pointing out the need to catch leaks early or to prevent them altogether. Today, our homes use half of all water in the U.S., and, of that, 15% is wasted and lost through leaks and drips costing us $30 per home per year. Are increasing water bills "sinking" your budget? Today you'll learn a number of things you can do to improve household water efficiency to save money and to keep your budget "afloat"! A leaky faucet wastes up to 20 gallons per day. A leaky toilet can waste hundreds of gallons of water, totaling tens of thousands of gallons per year! Thus, catching and preventing leaks is job one. Next, slow the flow with low-flush toilets, low-flow shower heads, aerators, and controlled flow faucets and valves. Finally, a new Energy Star clothes washer will use 50% less water and energy and will tame the second biggest waster in your home. Save water outdoors, too! Keep your house "ship-shape" water-wise. It pays!
