Tip of the Day

Build Your Own Home?

With the cost of new homes skyrocketing, many are choosing to build new homes themselves. Today you'll learn how owner-builder construction can save wallet and budget destruction! If you are functionally challenged and have trouble understanding a pre-fab bookcase, then this probably isn't for you. But for some (in fact, many!) it's a smart way to wind up with a $400,000 house for well under $300,000...and to keep all that extra cash in your pocket! There are hundreds of books on the subject, as well as Internet resources and ?hands-on? classroom courses. Once you've made the commitment, you'll find lots help comes out of the woodwork, both literally and figuratively. Once you find owner/builder mortgage money, allow plenty of time for your project. The rule of thumb for amateur contractors: allow at least one and a half hours for every square foot of house you're building!
