Number one is more living space--especially big kitchens with adjoining family rooms. Exterior-wise, it's a big deck or patio out back, and surprisingly, a porch in front (like days of old!) The second biggest trend? Scads of luxury features. Things that were once only found in upscale homes, like high ceilings, kitchen islands, and skylights, are now standard in average homes as well. The only difference between the two? Overall size. Fifty percent want four bedrooms or more, light wood kitchen cabinets, a whirlpool tub and a three-car garage.
