Alexander Graham Bell was born on this day in 1847. 29 years later, he invented the telephone. Today he'd be stunned to see technology at work both with cordless phones and in other areas like cord-free power tools and wireless computing. Hold on, Mr. Bell? there's still lots more! Now television cords have hit the floor, too!
At the recent Consumer Electronics Show, Sharp unveiled the world's first battery-operated wireless LCD TV! Its 15-inch screen is only three inches thick, and, with built-in stereo speakers, it is extremely lightweight and very portable. It works virtually anywhere indoors and out--up to 100 feet away from the plugged-in transmitter. The cost? About $1,800! While Alexander Graham Bell would surely marvel at recent innovations in phone technology, so would Philo Farnsworth, who invented television.
