"Leave it to Beaver" made its debut on this day in 1957. In one
episode, the boys were to repaint the stairs before they could go out for the day. Not wanting to get trapped inside or out, they hatched an escape plan. Wally painted the stairs going up to the bedrooms, and Beaver painted outside, front and rear. Wally used one approach -- painting every other step -- while Beaver painted only half the width on each of his. Both techniques enabled them to go up and down and in and out of the house. And they did! A few hours later, the boys returned and finished their work. Wally painted the remaining every-other stair, and Beaver finished the other half, front and rear. A while later, June and Ward returned, pleased at the work the boys had done. "Now can we out for the day?" the boys whined. "Sure" said Ward, handing each five bucks. "You earned it," June added, "Go take in a movie." And that's the On The House Tip for today.
