"The Flintstones" premiered on TV this day in 1960. In one episode,
winter was coming to Bedrock and Fred was about to put his yard tools away. Remembering what happened the prior year, and what a mess his tools were in the spring, he decided to do things differently this time around. Instead of putting the tools away dull and dirty, he washed and dried each one thoroughly. Then, donning rubber gloves, he cleaned remaining dirt and rust with a soap-filled steel-wool pad dipped in turpentine. He then file-sharpened shovels, hoes and blades, and added a light coat of oil to prevent rusting. Finally, he neatly hung the tools on wall hooks and pegboard, taking care to turn all pointed or sharp objects toward the wall so that kiddies, Pebbles and Bamm Bamm, wouldn't get hurt by them. Instead of the usual dull and rusty stoneage mess, Fred would take out tools that would be clean and sharp. Yabba Dabba Doo! And that's the On The House Tip for today.
