Tip of the Day

Cleaning blades and bits

The police drama "Chips" made its debut on this day in 1977. It featured two California highway patrol officers who successfully fought crime while riding motorcycles. If the tools you use to make chips, sawdust and wood shavings don't seem to be working as well as they used to, you might assume it's because they're getting dull. But perhaps not. They just might be a bit gummed up from cutting drilling and shaving fresh pine and the like that contains a lot of gooey pitch. While there are a number of blade-cleaning products available today, you might already have a good one on hand. It's oven cleaner! It's great for cleaning sticky woodworking tools. Just gather up all your saws, drills and router bits, and following all safety precautions on the label, give them a spritz. And that's the On The House Tip for today.
