Can you dig it?

"The Monkees" television show premiered on this day in 1966. On it, kids asked their parents "Can you dig it?" Today, those kids are parents themselves, and they should still be asking "Can you dig it?" when it comes to making holes in their home's yard. Why? All types of wires and utility lines are buried just below the surface. If they're cut, serious problems can arise: Water can be contaminated or cut off, telephone service interrupted, emergency service like 911 can become unreachable and broken gas lines can cause an explosion. So how can you know what lies underfoot? Just call "bud" and ask, "Can you dig it?" Most cities now have a free underground utility location service call. And that's the On The House Tip for today.
