One of television's first children's shows "Captain Midnight" began
on this day in 1954. Our hero told kids to play safely and be careful, which is still good advice today. But children love to run and play, and sometimes things get in the way of safety. To provide a safe environment for little ones, it's important to fully childproof your home. First cushion all sharp corners, add special kid locks to doors, drawers and cabinets, and kid-proof latches on all kitchen appliances. Don't forget locks for bi-fold doors and toilet lids, too. Put slip-type loose covers on door and stove knobs and nonslip pads and strips underfoot to add traction for little feet. You'll find all these items and more at your local hardware store. It's Child Injury Prevention Week and Baby Safety Month, as well; with care and forethought, you can kid- proof your home for your children and become their super hero in the process! And that's the On The House Tip for today.
