Monty Hall, master of ceremonies of TV's "Let's Make a Deal," was
born on this day. For 10 years in the late '60s and early '70s he and oddly dressed contestants from the studio audience made trades in hopes of getting something of value. Today, much the same is taking place in Santa Fe, New Mexico. There, city fathers are telling builders that before they can add any new construction that further depletes our already overburdened water supply, they need to "make a deal"; they need to perform a number of toilet retrofits, changing out older water-guzzling models for new water-saving, low-flow ones in such a number so that it keeps the town's water usage at a constant level even with the builders' new construction added in. That's a tough order, but builders are doing it. And it serves to point out how water availability is increasing in importance. And that's the On The House Tip for today.
