White LED lighting

Disneyland opened on this day in 1955. When night fell, America's first theme park became a special magical place, filled with sparkling lights and Disney's spectacular electric parade. Lighting plays a big role in your home too, especially at night. And today there are many types to choose from -- some traditional, like incandescent, some smart and economical, like fluorescent and some specialty lights, like halogen. Now there's something new just emerging. White-light-emitting diode or LED lamps are extremely long-lasting and use little energy. While they put out more light per watt than others, they use 40 percent less electricity than fluorescents and last as long as 10 years. So where can I get one you ask? Not so fast -- they cost about $50. But prices will come down soon. But, even at the current rate, they pay for themselves over time. For more tips, visit our Web site at onthehouse.com. And that's the On The House tip for today.
