Mold remediation

Mold is a growing environmental problem. How can you solve it? Today, experts say as many as half our homes contain some mold, due to water damage from things like hidden or unattended leaks. Condensation and moisture causes mold, too. When relative humidity in a home exceeds 70 percent, mold is common, and there now are 24 species to worry about. The EPA and others say bleach can and will kill mold, but often it's a cosmetic fix that doesn't last. For thorough mold inspection and remediation, call in an expert because mold is a health risk. Look for one in the Yellow Pages or ask your local health department for a reference. There are now more than 10,000 lawsuits in state courts litigating health and property damage due to mold. Insurance companies are now limiting claims. Your best defense? Fix leaks and note moisture. Prevent mold before it starts. For more tips, visit our Web site at onthehouse.com. And that's the On The House tip for today.
