Goof-Proof Plumbing

"Sanford and Son" premiered this day in 1972, with Fred and his son Lamont running a junkyard. If you're about to do some work on a sink faucet -- from a simple repair to total replacement -- you can avoid making common mistakes by reading on. Don't turn even the simplest repair into a huge project that requires extra work and disassembly, and that'll make your place look like the Sanford's junkyard. We offer these goof-proof plumbing tips to help you get things done easily: First, close the sink drain and cover it with a rag. This'll save losing parts down the drain. Otherwise, you might be taking the drain under the sink apart to retrieve what you dropped. If you do open the trap, put a bucket below to catch the water, then don't empty the bucket into the sink until the drain is reassembled. And that's the On The House tip for today.
