It's finally here -- the first day of spring. Soon, we'll be
venturing outdoors again to work and play, night and day, in the sun and under the stars, with lots of pesky little critters ready to buzz, bite and sting us. There are, however, things we can do to protect our hides and to level the playing field. From deep within the Carey Brothers' vault of defensive bug-fu, we bring swat-team maneuvers. First, buy a good bug repellant. Find one you like and apply it generously. Don't make yourself a target by wearing sweet-smelling cologne, hair spray or scented cosmetics. These things attract bugs, especially bees and wasps. And avoid wearing bright, colorful clothing. It makes insects think you're a big flower. Don't even stand by someone wearing fragrant after shave and a Hawaiian shirt. And when working or playing, remember that perspiration reduces the effectiveness of repellants. So give yourself another coat from time to time. And that's the On The House tip for today.
