Ink Stain Removal

Barbara Hale, who played Della Street on television's "Perry Mason," was born on this day. In one episode she solved a big mystery -- and saved the day -- when Perry got ink all over his shirt collar. Just an hour before a big trial was to start, telling Perry not to panic, she took a can of hairspray from her desk drawer. She then got a bowl of cold water and a bar of soap from the restroom. After Perry removed his shirt, she soaked the stain with hairspray until it was wet through. After she scrubbed the stain with soap, it magically began to fade and disappear. After rinsing it in cold water, she blotted the collar dry and it looked good as new. (Marks from a permanent pen on a vinyl floor tile also can be removed with a spritz of hairspray!) And that's the On The House tip for today.
