An extra 2x4 stud usually is added in corners as support where two drywall panels come together, and as a backer stud for nailing into. However, a growing number of contractors now use make-sense drywall clips instead. These clips are first attached to the corners, and then the drywall panels are attached to the clip. This eliminates adding the extra corner stud, saving both time and material.
