Tip of the Day

Hammer, Slammer, Whammer

Today everyone starts putting together the gifts marked "Some assembly required." But not everyone has the right tools for the job. Instead of a hammer, a pair of pliers becomes a whammer; in lieu of a chisel, a screwdriver makes do -- and its handle becomes a slammer. OUCH! Tool abuse could become rampant today, but it doesn't have to be that way. Before you get things started, read the instructions to see what you'll need. Then either gather and lay out your tools or borrow or buy the basics before you proceed. If you don't, all sorts of bad stuff can happen. You can damage your work, break your tools or -- even worse -- hurt yourself or a loved one. The sensible answer? First, determine if you need a hammer, slammer, or whammer, then go get what you need. If you don't have it, there are many sales today! And that's the On The House tip for today.

Oven and Grill Cleanup
To clean oven racks and barbecue grills, put them in a plastic trash bag with ammonia, seal it with a twist-tie and let then soak overnight.
