Holiday Lights Reminders

Putting up your holiday lights this weekend? You and millions of other homeowners will be doing so. So, it's time for some annual advice such as -- lights are made for either indoor or outdoor use; be sure you know which is for which. Then, read the box to see how many strands can be put together before you start blowing the mini-fuses in the plugs. Outdoors: measure and make a diagram first, then run extension cords to each point where the maximum number of strings ends, and test each string at ground level first. Then use plastic clips on gutters, eaves and roof edges. If stapling, get a wire-guide attachment to prevent stapling through electric wires. Finally, to prevent a tangled mess when taking your lights down, lower each strand into plastic bags, number both your bag and the diagram (to show where each strand goes) and store them both together. And that's the On The House tip for today.
