Tip of the Day

Emergency Candlelight

When a stormy blackout occurs at night, you won't always have emergency light. Nor will you necessarily have a lantern, or even a working flashlight; perhaps, not even a candle. Here's a few ways to put things right. From deep within the Carey Brothers' vault of shining ideas, we bring glowing ways to shed some light. Indeed, says here to strike a match. If you have only a simple birthday candle, you can make it burn big and bright by pushing it into a jar of petroleum jelly with just the tip sticking out. Then light it, and it'll burn for hours. You can also make a long-burning light by pouring cooking oil into a glass measuring cup and suspending a short string in the center as a wick. For safety, set the cup in a shallow metal pan, light it, and the floating string's tip will burn for hours. And that's the On The House tip for today.

Tool Time? Think Quality
Be wary of tools that are "new and improved." The manufacture probably just found a new way to "improve" his bottom line.
