Tip of the Day

Battery Update

Book matches were patented on this day in 1892. Ever since, matches have been handy items to have around when nasty weather causes a blackout. But a sufficient supply of batteries is even better when you're left without power and in the dark for many hours. But there are misconceptions about keeping back-up batteries. It has recently become known that batteries can be stored up to five years without losing their original power. Thus, you can save money by purchasing value packs without fear of energy loss. But, when storing batteries loose, as in a drawer, keep them away from metal objects. Such objects can drain their power over time should they touch the batteries. Thus, keeping them in their original packaging is a good idea. Will storing them in the refrigerator extend their life? Experts say no; room temperature is just fine. And that's the On The House tip for today.
