Rescue Your Garage Door

The final episode of "M*A*S*H" aired on this date in 1983. After 255 shows, spanning 11 years, Hawkeye, Radar, Hotlips and the gang called it quits, with three-quarters of America's public tuned in. If your garage door has done more liftoffs and landings than a chopper in the 4077th, and sounds like it, too, is ready to retire, you can probably extend its service with a little maintenance and care. First lube the drive and all moving parts. There are many lubricants on the market, but lithium grease still works best. Hit the long-tension springs, too, to prevent rust. If it doesn't open all the way, or close tightly, there's a nut on the long-screw drive or stops on the chain drive that you can adjust. With a little lubrication and a few minor adjustments, you shouldn't have grinding, chatters, hang-ups or M*A*S*Hed toes any more. And that's the On The House tip for today.
