Plywood Edge Screw Fastening

Good morning Mr. Do-it-Yourself! Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to devise a method of inserting a screw into the edge of plywood paneling that has strong holding power, without splitting the layers of veneer apart. While we know this is difficult, some say impossible, our laboratory has come up with a solution. You will drill the required number of 3/8-inch holes into the plywood edge at each screw location, each slightly deeper than the screw length. You then will hammer a glue-covered 3/8-inch wood-dowel rod into the hole, and once it dries, you'll trim it off flush with the surface. Then you'll drill a small diameter pilot hole into the center of the dowel rod and drive each screw in securely where needed. As usual we will disavow any knowledge of your actions and this tape will self-destruct in exactly three seconds. And that's the On The House tip for today.
