Fiberglass Batt Insulation

Today, the 1,200-mile Iditarod dogsled race across the Alaskan wilderness that began on March 2nd enters its third week. This event conjurs up images of cold and wind -- and the need for adding insulation to keep heat in. Adding or installing insulation in your house? There is, indeed, a right way and a wrong way to install fiberglass-batt insulation in your wall. Insulation batts should fit snugly between studs, but not be compressed (as it reduces r-value). Batts sometimes also have paper facing that is a vapor barrier, and edging that is designed for stapling. A common mistake is attaching the edging inside the framing instead of onto the face. When incorrectly stapled, small air channels occur that reduce r-values and present fire-safety issues. Employ our insulation-installation information. Do it right! And that's the On The House tip for today.
