Does your circular saw tend to wander a mite when you're cutting cross-grain or ripping a board end-to-end? Grain can be tricky and can lead you off this way and that, unless you know how to get the upper hand by making your saw go where you want it to, instead of where the grain wants to take it. To cut a bit more accurately when cutting cross-grain, hold a metal square up tight against your board. This will guide your saw base as it cuts along for long lengthwise ripping (which is our personal favorite). Use the saw's edge guide or clamp on a couple of straight pieces of lumber to form a channel of sorts to run your saw up and back, straight and true. Got messy wavy cuts running across and up and down? Shore up that edge, and you won't wear a frown. And that's the On The House tip for today.
